Big Data and Internet of Things
How is the Relationship between IoT and Big Data?
Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) are the concepts that have emotive the technology world for a long time and are now a necessity. In recent years, the use of big data has been assimilated and the businesses quickly catch up what they need with it.
At the same time, as we have always mentioned, the Internet of Things (IoT) showed us what a completely interconnected world can offer us, and it created products that surprised us. Even though Internet of Things and Big Data developed independently, they became related in the process.
Moreover, the relationship between Big Data and the Internet of Things showed that two technologies, that deliver technologies in the best possible way, are not far away. So, when Big Data and the Internet of Things were 2 discretely excited technologies, the combination of the two has raised the level.
What is Big Data?
In its simplest definition, Big Data means huge amount of information. Big data is about the methods of studying, analyzing and processing data sets that are too large to be processed by traditional data processing software. Data are defined as large when it shows four properties which are veracity, velocity, volume, variety named as 4V.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies are also increasingly helping the big data analysis process. Thanks to these technologies, data from many sources can be compiled, results can be predicted and recommendations can be made. For example, platforms like Netflix and Amazon remember the movies that you have watched and suggest you a movie that has similar content to the previous one.
The relationship between IoT and Big Data
It is estimated that around 4.4 trillion GB of data will be produced through the Internet of Things in 2020. This is quite a large amount. However, this year more than twenty billion sensors and devices are becoming connected to the Internet with the increasing number of connected devices. All these devices need to collect, analyze, share and transmit data in real time. For this reason, without the data, IoT devices can be lack of full functionality and capabilities.
How do Internet of Things and Big Data affect each other?
There is no single interconnected relationship between IoT and Big Data. Besides helping each other, they affect each other greatly. The larger the Internet of Things, the more responsive it will be to businesses about their big data capabilities.
For example, while the data produced by the Internet of Things has increased substantially, traditional data storage technology is no longer sufficient. Therefore, there is a demand for more advanced and innovative storage solutions to cope with this growing workload, which causes an enterprise to update its large data storage infrastructure.
Similarly, the Internet of Things and Big Data Converged Applications are accelerating the scope of the research in both areas. Therefore, both the Internet of Things and Big Data technology are interdependent and need further development.
